So apparently a school in Mississippi issued a memorandum stating that all couples at the prom must be of opposite gender. When a lesbian student spoke with the school's superintend to allow her to bring her girlfriend to the prom she was told she could be ejected from the prom. The ACLU and the student attempted to informally convince the school to change their stance. Gay Marriage Ban in Iowa Ruled Unconstitutional
The Iowa State Supreme Court has ruled that a ban on same sex marriage in Iowa is unconstitutional. The ruling stated that the ban violated the states rights of equal protection.
Richard Socarides, attorney and former senior adviser on gay rights to President Clinton said "It's a big win because, coming from Iowa, it represents the mainstreaming of gay marriage. And it shows that despite attempts stop gay marriage through right-wing ballot initiatives, like in California, the courts will continue to support the case for equal rights for gays."
The problem with "choice" dogma
So a lot of people wonder what's wrong with people claiming to be "exgay." The problem is that the second you define being gay as a choice you open the door for the straight majority to criminalize and further persecute the gay minority. All reactable scientific evidence points to people being born gay, straight, or bi. Yes you can get confused on which one you are but you can't change who you are just as you can't rewrite your DNA.
